Next week we participate in the Our Future is Public conference in Santiago de Chile

From 29 November to 2 December, the Our Future is Public conference will take place in Santiago de Chile. Following the last meeting in Amsterdam in 2020, #OFiP2022 will once again bring together social movements and civil society organisations from around the world to develop strategies and narratives to strengthen economic, social and cultural rights and address the effects of climate change through public services. The first two days will be dedicated to sectoral meetings on health, education, agriculture, economic justice and social protection, energy, food systems, housing, transport, waste and water; while the last two days will bring together all movements and organisations participating in the conference for a collective discussion on cross-cutting issues including climate emergency, gender equality, economic and fiscal justice and democratic ownership.

Engineering Without Borders, as well as the other entities and social movements organising the meeting, seek to generate a space for exchange that enriches our own experiences in the water and energy sectors, as well as to generate a way to coordinate with the rest of the public services sectors.

Specifically, with our participation in the energy sector, we hope to strengthen the Energy Democracy alliance to defend public ownership of energy, as well as to develop an analysis and a path to continue sharing that converts the vision around ecofeminism and decolonisation into democratic political proposals. We hope, too, that from this extensive dialogue a global identification of strategic opportunities for collective action can be drawn.

In terms of participation in the water sector, we hope to strengthen links with the Latin American water movement, especially the Red Vida de las Americas and the Plataforma de Acuerdos Públicos-Comunitarios, and that it will serve to generate links and strengthen the People’s Water Forum alliance created after the Alternative World Water Forum in Senegal in March 2022.

We will keep you informed throughout the course of the conference on our social media!
